The Leapfrog Group has bestowed 15 U.S. hospitals with consecutive "A" safety grades since 2012.
The organization biannually grades nearly 3,000 acute-care hospitals against 22 national patient safety measures from CMS, the Leapfrog Hospital Survey and supplemental data.
On May 1, the organization said it recorded "significant signs of improvement since the fall 2023 Safety Grades, and preventable health care-associated infections show a sustained drop after unprecedented rates during the height of the pandemic."
Three hospitals have lost their "A" grade streak since fall 2023: Beverly (Mass.) Hospital, University of Michigan Health (Ann Arbor) and St. David's Medical Center (Austin, Texas).
