Summit Park Hospitals in Rockland County, N.Y., reportedly lost $10 million in 2010, increasing the county's budget deficit to $50 million, according to a Journal News report.
County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef disclosed the overwhelming loss and continued financial struggle may mean cuts to hospital programs or eliminating the programs altogether, according to the news report. The financial reports come after county officials proposed a sale of the hospital to a public-benefit corporation in order to close the budget shortfall. A review of the financial reports is still pending to see where the losses are coming from, though county officials already surmise the proposed hospital sale may be contributing to lower patient volumes.
