Saratoga Hospital in Sarasota Springs, N.Y., and Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center jointly filed a certificate of need application with the New York Department of Health seeking approval to develop an urgent care center in Malta, N.Y., according to a Saratoga Hospital news release.
The two organizations signed an agreement in September to jointly provide services in at the center, which will provide 24-hour access to emergency medical physicians. The two organizations formed a non-profit corporation, Healthcare Partners of Saratoga, to operate the center.
"This collaboration addresses the growing health care needs of the community and reduces the costs of delivering that care," said Angelo Calbone, president and CEO of Saratoga Hospital. "It draws on the strengths of both hospitals — the community-based individualized care of Saratoga Hospital and the expertise of one of the most sophisticated emergency departments in New York State — to provide a smart, innovative way to better serve the Saratoga region.
The facility is also expected to house physician offices, including Albany Medical Center specialists, along with family practitioners and other primary care physicians from Saratoga Hospital.
The venture is the latest example of cooperation between the two hospitals. In 2009, they launched a successful collaboration to enhance stroke care.
