New $31M Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Iowa Officially Opens

The new $31 million Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, has finally opened its doors this week after moving two patients from its old campus to the newly renovated site, according to a Sioux City Journal news report.

Discussions of a new hospital location started in 2005. Hospital board members approved plans to build an entirely new hospital after estimates showed new construction would cost $27 million, just a little more than the projected $24 million it would cost to renovate the old hospital site. Hospital board members also recognized a new hospital would resolve parking issues and create new job opportunities for medical staff, according to the news report.

The new hospital features two operating rooms with twice the space housed in the older hospital site, which will allow medical staff to offer other services such as orthopedic procedures.
