Florida Governor Raises Concerns About North Broward Hospital District's Plans to Go Private

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and physician leaders raised doubts Tuesday about Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based North Broward Hospital District's plan to privatize its billion-dollar-a-year operation, according to a Sun Sentinel report.

The district board agreed Friday to lease the district's four hospitals and 11 clinics to a nonprofit board of business leaders to be chosen at a later date.

The idea was presented publicly for the first time last week. Following the announcement, Gov. Crist contacted hospital leaders to raise concerns about the relatively nontransparent decision process, according to the report.
