TriHealth CEO to retire, successor named: 5 things to know

John Prout, president and CEO of Cincinnati-based TriHealth, is retiring.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Prout.

1. He has been on medical leave since early October following heart surgery. His recovery continues to progress and health was not a factor in the decision to retire.

2. Mr. Prout has led TriHealth since 1998.

3. During his tenure, he guided TriHealth through a restructuring as well as numerous years of financial growth and system expansion, officials said.  Under his leadership, TriHealth has also won various awards for clinical excellence, including Truven recognition as a Top Five mid-sized health system in the country, as well as national awards for workplace environment and diversity. Additionally, under Mr. Prout, TriHealth has grown to 12,000 employees, 130 ambulatory locations, 550 employed physicians and an independent medical staff of more than 1,800.

4. Mr. Prout attributed much of TriHealth's success to strong leadership teams. 

5. Mark Clement, who has been serving as interim CEO during Mr. Prout's medical leave, has been named president and CEO, effective, Jan. 1, 2016. Mr. Clement joined TriHealth in May 2015. Prior to TriHealth, he was CEO of Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health System.
