Spokane, Wash.-based Sacred Heart Children's Hospital has named Keith Georgeson, MD, CEO.
Here are eight things to know about Dr. Georgeson.
1. He will begin his job in January 2016.
2. As CEO, Dr. Georgeson will oversee the hospital's strategic and operational management. He also will participate with leadership throughout Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services, of which Sacred Heard is a part, "to ensure continuous advancement in the care of children," officials said.
3. Dr. Georgeson has served as chief of children's services at Sacred Heart for the past three years.
4. Previously, he was chief of surgery at Birmingham-based Children's Hospital of Alabama for more than two decades.
5. Dr. Georgeson also previously served as director of the American Board of Surgery from 2000-06, and chairman of the Pediatric Surgery Board of the American Board of Surgery from 2003-06.
6. In addition, he is past president of the American Pediatric Surgical Association, and a founding member and past president of the international Pediatric Endosurgery Group.
7. Dr. Georgeson received the William E. Ladd Medal from the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2011 for his contributions to the field of pediatric surgery.
8. He earned his medical degree from Loma Linda (Calif.) University and completed a fellowship in pediatric surgery at Detroit-based Children's Hospital of Michigan.
