Peter Banko, president of a three-state division within CommonSpirit and former CEO of its Centura Health joint venture, has stepped down from the organization.
A spokesperson for Chicago-based CommonSpirit confirmed Mr. Banko's departure. "We are grateful for Peter's many contributions and we wish him all the best," the spokesperson said in a statement shared with Becker's.
Mr. Banko previously served as CEO of Centura Health since 2017. The Centennial, Colo.-based system was a joint venture that CommonSpirit shared with Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth for 27 years. In August 2023, the systems ended their partnership, with CommonSpirit folding 20 Centura hospitals into its organization with plans to sunset the brand.
At that time, Mr. Banko's role was adjusted from Centura CEO to president of CommonSpirit's Colorado/Kansas/Utah Division, with his leadership team continuing to lead the 20 hospitals in Colorado, Kansas and Utah that transitioned from Centura to CommonSpirit.
Upon Mr. Banko's departure, CommonSpirit's Mountain Region has named Matt Brown as the interim region president, a system spokesperson told Becker's. Mr. Brown has served as CommonSpirit's chief transformation officer for more than four years.
