New York City-based NYU Langone Health named Aravinda Chakravarti, PhD, director of its new Center for Human Genetics and Genomics, effective April 2.

1. Dr. Chakravarti formerly served as director of the Center for Complex Disease Genomics at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University.
2. He also served as director of the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins.
3. His work centers on how gene variations and genetic mechanisms determine disease susceptibility and onset.
4. The new multidisciplinary Center for Human Genetics and Genomics at NYU Langone Health aims to understand and model human disorders using genome-wide tools and perspectives.
