Great Neck, N.Y.-based North Shore-LIJ Health System has appointed Souhel Najjar, MD, senior vice president and executive director of the health system's neurology service line.
In this position, Dr. Najjar is responsible for all neurology services across North Shore-LIJ, according to the health system. In addition, he continues to serve as chair and professor of neurology at the Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine in Hempstead, N.Y., as well as chairman of neurology services at both Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and Staten Island (N.Y.) University Hospital.
Before his appointment at the medical school, Lenox Hill and SIUH, Dr. Najjar served as SIUH's director of neurosciences and stroke director since 2006, according to North Shore-LIJ. Previously, he served as director of epilepsy quality assurance and associate professor of neurology at New York University School of Medicine. Dr. Najjar also was director and founder of the Epilepsy Center Division of the NYU Department of Neurology's Neuroinflammation Research Group.
