Wyatt Decker, MD, vice president and CEO of the Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix, will retire from his role early next year, a spokesperson for the Rochester, Minn.-based health system confirmed to Becker's Hospital Review Dec. 12.
The spokesperson confirmed Dr. Decker accepted an executive leadership role at Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare Group. He will serve in his role at the Mayo Clinic's Phoenix campus through Jan. 2.
Lois Krahn, MD, a member of the Mayo Clinic board of trustees' Arizona executive operations team, will serve as interim CEO of the Phoenix campus in partnership with Paula Menkosky, vice chair of administration at Mayo Clinic and chief administrative officer at the Phoenix campus.
Health system officials plan to conduct an internal search to identify the next physician leader of the Phoenix campus.
"We were truly honored to have had Wyatt Decker, MD, serve as vice president of Mayo Clinic and CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona over the last eight years," Mayo Clinic President and CEO John Noseworthy, MD, said in a statement. "His distinguished career included physician leader roles at three of Mayo Clinic's destination medical centers but was defined by his commitment to patients and Mayo Clinic's values, and his drive to improve the delivery of care through technology and innovation."
