Johns Hopkins Health System names new cybersecurity chief

Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins named a new leader to oversee cybersecurity for its health system and university.

Janet Rathod was appointed vice president and chief information security officer starting Sept. 16. She reports to Johns Hopkins CIO Richard Mendola, PhD.

"I am so excited that Janet will be joining Johns Hopkins as our next CISO," Dr. Mendola said in a Sept. 13 statement. "She brings experience and perspectives that are incredibly well-suited to the incessant cybersecurity threats that we must face in higher education and healthcare."

Ms. Rathod previously spent 16 years at the FBI before serving in cybersecurity leadership at Capital One and Citi. She replaces Darren Lacey, who was named chief engineer for cybersecurity in the university's Advanced Physics Laboratory.
