Hospital's new CEO could acquire it at tenure's end

Thomasville (Ala.) Regional Medical Center has named Quentin Whitwell its next CEO, CBS affiliate WKRG reported March 28. By the end of his tenure, he could be its owner.

Mr. Whitwell is a rural healthcare operator and attorney, according to a release obtained by the news station. He currently serves as CEO of Progressive Health Systems — an Oxford, Miss.-based hospital management group — and a founding partner of law and advisory firm Musgrove Whitwell, PLLC.

Mr. Whitwell has an agreement with the hospital that would allow his law firm to acquire it by the end of his tenure.

"We believe that this is the next step for the hospital to grow and prosper within the community and the surrounding counties now and in the future," said Curtis James, chair of the board of directors in the release. "Mr. Whitwell will be able to incorporate more specialties and other services to Thomasville that will be a key component in the long term success of this hospital. Our outstanding physicians, dedicated staff and the entire community is a big key in making this opportunity attractive."
