Hospitals have reported 50 CEO exits in the first five months of 2024, down 38% from the 80 exits reported through the same period last year.
The finding is from a June 27 report from Challenger, Gray & Christmas, an executive coaching firm that examines CEO turnover in the U.S.
Hospitals announced 10 CEO exits in May compared to six in April and 18 in May 2023, according to the report.
Across the 29 industries and sectors measured by the firm, there were 119 CEO changes in May, down 47% from a record-high 224 CEO exits reported in May 2023. Last month's total marked the second time in 15 months that CEO exits were lower than the corresponding month the year prior.
"Companies are taking a breather on leadership changes as the labor market holds steady. Many companies are likely also taking a wait-and-see approach in this election year," Andrew Challenger, senior vice president of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, said in the report.
