Eleanor Slater hospital names chief medical, nursing officers

Eleanor Slater Hospital in Cranston, R.I., has named its interim chief medical officer to serve in the position permanently. It also has hired a chief nursing officer. 

Sue Ferranti, DO, was selected as CMO after serving in the position on an interim basis since January, according to a July 12 news release from the hospital. She stepped into the permanent role July 14. Dr. Ferranti has worked at the public facility for more than 20 years and has held various leadership roles, including as interim CMO on four occasions. 

"[Dr. Ferranti] has a long-term commitment to the hospital and its missions and values, as well as the revitalization of the hospital, and she is committed to helping this work move forward," Brett Johnson, CEO of Eleanor Slater, said in a news release shared with Becker's

Kimberly Kane, MSN, APRN, who is currently the assistant medical director at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, will assume her new role as CNO next month. She is an on-call nurse practitioner at Foxboro, Mass.-based Wellpath. 

Since 2022, two chief medical officers have resigned from the hospital after less than a year in the role. Eleanor Slater has been the subject of controversy in recent years and has faced numerous probes related to patient safety. The state has invested millions to renovate the facility, with some upgrades slated to be complete in mid-2025.
