Arkansas' Fulton County Hospital Administrator Dismissed

Joe Hammond, administrator at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Ark., has been ousted by the hospital's board, according to an Area Wide News report.

The board went into an executive session during a special meeting earlier this month, calling for Mr. Hammond's immediate dismissal. Four board members supported the motion. According to the report, several board members argued Mr. Hammond failed to control spending and improve the hospital's financial problems.

Specifically, Mr. Hammond was criticized for failing to pay back vendors in a timely fashion and to enact recommended cost-cutting measures, such as payrolls cuts. According to the report, Fulton County Hospital lost $1.3 million during the 2010-2011 fiscal year, ended June 30.
