John Fraser has served as president and CEO of Methodist Health System in Omaha, Neb., since 2007.
Mr. Fraser has been with MHS since 1991. He first joined the health system in 1991 as executive vice president and COO of Methodist Hospital in Omaha and was named president and CEO of the hospital in 1997.
During his time at Methodist Hospital, Mr. Fraser led the planning and construction of two expansions. Also, the hospital was awarded Magnet status by the American Nurses Association Nurses Credentialing Center during his time as CEO.
Mr. Fraser says the accomplishment he has been most proud of as a CEO is putting together his team. "I have been most proud of…building a talented, visionary leadership team, which possesses the skills and fortitude to successfully lead our organization though the transitional change to accountable care," he says.
In fact, in 2012, Mr. Fraser was awarded the Tim Rouse Award for Women in Leadership for supporting the advancement of women leaders on his team. "Building female leaders is a result of basic, good management," Mr. Fraser said. "To me that means being open minded, while working to mentor and develop promising staff of either gender. Those basic principles need to be set as the cultural priority of the organization."
Mr. Fraser is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. He sits on the boards of directors of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce; the Salvation Army; Boy Scouts of America, Mid-America Council; Midlands Choice; and the Nebraska Organ Recovery System.
He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in health administration from Washington University in St. Louis.
