Diana Hendel, PharmD, has served as president and CEO of Long Beach (Calif.) Memorial and Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach since 2009. She is also CEO of Community Hospital Long Beach, which joined the other two Long Beach hospitals in 2011. All three hospitals are part of Fountain Valley, Calif.-based MemorialCare Health System.
Dr. Hendel has been with MemorialCare for 20 years and previously served as COO of MemorialCare's Long Beach hospitals, among many other administrative posts, and she started her career as a pharmacist for the hospital.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hendel has received many awards for her healthcare leadership prowess. She has received the Women Making a Difference CEO Award from the Los Angeles Business Journal and the Riveter Foundation's "We Can Do It" award in healthcare, among others. In 2012, Becker's Hospital Review named her to its list of 120 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
Despite her personal success, Dr. Hendel says she is most proud of the team she's assembled around her. "[I'm proud of] building a phenomenal team that is driven by our mission of improving the health and well being of individuals, families and our communities through innovation and the pursuit of excellence," she says. "We are a team that as a whole is greater than the sum of our parts…a team in which the very best of each is shared, the very best of each nurtured and the very best of each is expected."
Outside of leading her team at MemorialCare's three Long Beach hospitals, Dr. Hendel serves on many boards, such as the boards of the Hospital Association of Southern California, the California Children's Hospital Association, the Greater Long Beach Chamber of Commerce and the California Council on Equality and Justice, among others.
Dr. Hendel earned a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of California San Francisco.
