Newly minted C-suite roles are being created at several health systems as organizations look to create a tech-driven future that focuses on efficiency.
One newly created role is being centered around AI as healthcare organizations look to have a leader in place who can spearhead and oversee the integration of the technology into their organizations.
For example, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, based in Phoenix, named Bhavik Patel, MD, its first chief AI officer in September.
UC Davis Health, based in Sacramento, Calif., hired Dennis Chornenky as its first chief artificial intelligence adviser in June, and UC San Diego Health named Karandeep Singh, MD, its inaugural chief health artificial intelligence officer in December.
Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare also followed suit, creating the new role of chief research informatics officer and naming Madhu Behera, PhD, to the position in February. This role focuses on artificial intelligence and informatics.
Richard Gray, MD, CEO of Mayo Clinic in Arizona, told The New York Times that as health systems look to cultivate data and AI capabilities across each department, division and work group, having a dedicated leader with deep expertise on the subject is beneficial.
