The University of Cincinnati Medical Center is being sued by a patient whose diagnosis was posted on Facebook by a hospital employee, according to a Cincinnati Enquirer report.
A hospital employee allegedly posted a screen shot of the patient's medical record, including a syphilis diagnosis, to a Facebook group. The patient suing the hospital claims the employee posted the screen shot online at the request of an ex-boyfriend, according to the report. Additionally, the lawsuit claims UC Health and the medical center "negligently supervised" the employee and has not done enough to determine if other employees were involved with the event, according to the report.
"We are outraged that anyone might misuse a position with UC Health to attempt to embarrass or cause harm to another person. This is contrary to our ethic and the training we provide to our associates, and we took immediate action as a result," said Lee Ann Liska, president and CEO of UC Medical Center, in a statement.
