Hospitals are responsible for growing volumes of patient data, but their management of that data may be behind the times, according to a HIMSS Analytics survey.
The survey interviewed 150 senior-level technology officials at U.S. hospitals about how they protect patient data from potential loss or disaster and how they archive that data to meet compliance. The main finding, according to HIMSS Analytics, is that hospitals rely on outdated and inefficient practices to back up and archive patient data.
For example, more than 50 percent of respondents said at least 75 percent of clinical data should be stored onsite for immediate access. However, HIMSS Analytics said less than 30 percent of data is accessible after 18 months.
