Four out of five community hospitals believe they can achieve meaningful use by 2013 with their current electronic medical record systems, meaning one-fifth of community hospitals plan to switch their EMRs within the next couple of years, according to a KLAS news release.
KLAS interviewed more than 500 healthcare professionals about their experience with various EMR systems. Notably, the community hospitals' confidence levels in achieving meaningful use varied by product lines: Hospitals that have implemented McKesson and MEDITECH reported the highest level of confidence. Though non-certified EMR products appear to be most at risk of abandonment, providers appear to doubt some certified products as well.
