The Office of the Surgeon General and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology are seeking applications that would encourage people to engage in their own health and make healthy choices, according to a Health IT Buzz report.
The Surgeon General's Healthy App Challenge is seeking apps on fitness/physical activity, nutrition/healthy eating and integrative health, which focuses on integrating healthy sleep habits, mental/spiritual health and other aspects of wellness.
The apps should complement and enhance two parts of the surgeon general's public health agenda: the surgeon general's "Vision for a Healthy and Fit Nation," which aims to fight the obesity epidemic, and the "National Prevention Strategy," which aims to shift the country to a healthcare system based on wellness and prevention.
