Saint Francis Medical Center chooses Epic's EHR

Saint Francis Medical Center in Dexter, Mo., has selected Epic to provide its EHR.

The implementation will cost approximately $43 million and take place over approximately a year, with an expected launch in July 2016, according to the Southeast Missourian. The new system will provide interoperability across the hospital's IT systems.

Medical records from patients served by any clinic in the Saint Francis system will be accessible through the system. The hospital will also be able to exchange records with other large hospitals that use the Epic system in the St. Louis area, such as SSM Health, Mercy Health and St. Anthony's Medical Center. The process is estimated to create 70 jobs at the medical center, according to the report.

Saint Francis, a 284-bed facility, serves 650,000 people in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas. The hospital uses an online patient-access tool called HealtheConnect and is fully ICD-10 compliant, according to its 2014 annual report.
