Report: Hospitals' Use of Advanced Health Data Analytics to Spike by 2016

Health data analytics market research predicts the adoption of advanced health data analytics in U.S. hospitals will increase significantly over the next five years, according to Frost & Sullivan.

Frost & Sullivan predicts hospital use of advanced health data analytics will grow significantly from 2011 to 2016, increasing from 10 percent adoption in 2011 to 50 percent adoption in 2016, which would represent a 37 percent annual growth rate and a 400 percent increase overall. According to the release, this growth is expected to be driven by a combination of changes brought on by the increased use of electronic health records systems.

Health data analytics are changing from the traditional business intelligence solutions utilized by hospitals to more holistic data analytics. Electronic health records are driving the change because clinical data from EHRs can be combined with financial and administrative information, providing a more well-rounded view of the quality and efficiency of patient care, according to the release. For this reason, health analytics may be able to inform more strategic decision making.
