Practice Fusion, the provider of a cloud-based EHR, is set to integrate a medication database into its platform to provide physicians with up-to-date drug information.
The San Francisco-based vendor will partner with Wolters Kluwer Health, a medical information company based in Baltimore, to integrate its Medi-Span core drug database. Medi-Span will provide physicians on the Practice Fusion EHR with access to the latest medication information and recommended dosages when they write e-prescriptions for patients, according to a news release.
The integration helps provide physicians with up-to-date medication information and dosages, drug-drug or drug-allergy interactions, allows physicians to pre-configure more than 5,000 prescription medication orders and will impact more than 4 million e-prescriptions per month, according to the news release.
Access to more recent information may help prevent adverse drug reactions, which lead to more than 2,000 deaths every year, according to the news release.
"By integrating with Medi-Span, we can help ensure that doctors not only have the latest approved medications and their side effects, but also that they are quickly alerted while they are writing a prescription about any potential adverse reactions that may harm their patients," said Ryan Howard, founder and CEO of Practice Fusion.
