By this fall, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT hopes to test tools that will enable patient data sharing and develop the technical descriptions for patient data sharing, according to a Government Health IT news report.
The tools and technical descriptions will become part of the proposed stage 2 meaningful use requirements, due by the end of the year. The ONC's efforts to develop tools and technical descriptions are part of the agency's Standards & Interoperability Framework, which seeks to find solutions for challenges related to information exchange.
