The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and Health 2.0's Investing in Innovation Initiative has launched two competitions to encourage the development of unique health IT applications, according to a news release.
The two new competitions are "Ensuring Safe Transitions from Hospital to Home" and "Reporting Device Adverse Events." The former competition is looking for browser-based applications that allow patients to access critical information needed prior to discharge. The "Reporting device Adverse Events" challenge is looking for a system that allows patients to easily record adverse events associated with implanted medical devices and other medical devices in the hospital, clinic or home.
The i2 Initiative, managed by the Health 2.0 Developer Challenge program, is designed to spur the creation of technology that could improve healthcare quality, efficiency and safety.
