ONC, CMS Name McKesson, Meditech "Test EHRs" for MU2 Requirement

CMS and ONC have selected electronic health record systems from McKesson and Meditech as the first certified systems to test interoperability among EHRs as required to attest to meaningful use stage 2.

Under meaningful use stage 2 eligible providers must either conduct one or more successful electronic exchanges of a summary of care document with a provider that is using an EHR from a different vendor, or conduct one or more such exchanges with a CMS-designated test EHR during the reporting period. Certified EHR systems from McKesson and Meditech are the first such designated test EHRs.

ONC and the National Institute of Standards and Technology conducted a pilot late last year to finalize the test procedures. Pilot participants included McKesson, Meditech and athenahealth.

The ONC is encouraging more EHR vendors to become test EHRs.
