The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has announced it will award another $12 million to regional extension centers to assist critical-access and rural hospitals in achieving meaningful use of health IT and electronic medical records, according to an ONC announcement.
Rural healthcare facilities face a number of challenges that are not commonly experienced by larger facilities in urban and suburban America, including lack of financial capital, skilled personnel and access to affordable broadband connectivity.
