North Carolina Rep. Renee Ellmers Requests HHS Study Health IT Adoption, Medical Error Rates

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) has sent a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius requesting that HHS study health IT adoption, benefits and cost-effectiveness, according to a HIMSS news release.

Rep. Ellmers asked that the study also include medical error rates of humans and technology.

She recently introduced a bill that would eliminate e-prescribing as a requirement for electronic health record meaningful use. Her "Stripping The E-prescribe Arbitrary Mandates (STEAM) Act" would also prevent Medicare fees from applying to hospitals and physicians that do not e-prescribe.
