Nearly 70 percent of clinicians use smartphones, tablets at work

Mobile technology is a regular part of everyday life for most professionals, and now 69 percent of respondents reported they used apps on smartphones and tablets to access clinical information at work, according to HIMSS Analytics' 2014 Mobile Device Study.

HIMSS' survey of 139 clinicians found clinicians believe smartphones and tablets enhanced their ability to communicate and contribute to an overall more positive work experience. More than half of hospitals use smartphones and tablet computers at the facilities, according to the survey.

While the majority of respondents use apps, only 33 percent reportedly believe they can access most of all of the clinical systems and technologies they need through smartphones and tablets. Another third of clinicians indicated that use of smartphones and tablets would improve efficiencies in care overall, such as the elimination of redundancies.
