Mergers and Acquisitions Driven by Clinical IT Integration

Mergers and acquisitions are being largely driven by clinical integration through healthcare information technology, according to a Healthcare IT News report.

Hospitals, healthcare systems and physician-led medical groups are using clinical integration as a major strategy in mergers and acquisitions as the industry moves toward a more integrated delivery system of care, said Mark Reibolt, CEO of Coker Capital Advisors in Alpharetta, Ga., at the Medical Group Management Association's annual conference in New Orleans.

Transactions in the healthcare industry have been increasing, with physicians driving the growth, according to Mr. Reibolt. "Consolidation occurs when there is a perfect mix of uncertainty and opportunity; clinical integration has been the key ingredient in making that happen," he said.
