Five leading health systems have formed the Care Connectivity Consortium to securely exchange electronic health data, with the first data exchange planned in the next year, according to a joint news release by the health systems.
Danville, Pa.-based Geisinger Health System, Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic, Salt Lake City, Utah-based Intermountain Healthcare and Seattle, Wash.-based Group Health Cooperative have created the consortium, which will utilize standards-based health information technology to share data about patients electronically.
"Five of the nation's premier healthcare providers have decided to form the consortium to help lead the healthcare discussion in this country with this unprecedented health IT collaboration created to deliver highquality, patient-centered care," said Glenn Steele, Jr., MD, PhD, president and CEO of Geisinger Health System.
