How much time do electronic health records take out of clinicians' days?
A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found physicians in charge of patient care lost an average of 48 minutes per day due to EHR use.
The study surveyed more than 400 internists with experience using EHRs to come to the conclusion that while EHRs can be beneficial, they can also cause a time crunch.
Across the board, more than 60 percent of the physicians said keeping notes via EHR took more time than taking paper notes.
Out of the physicians surveyed, 59 percent said EHR use had negatively affected their free time at work, while 26 percent noted no change in free time and 15 percent said they had more free time as a result of their HER.
