Sixty percent of U.S. hospitals currently have a formal organizational entity that oversees the hospital's use of its electronic health record system and decides on any changes that should be made to the system's infrastructure, according to a recent survey from HIMSS Analytics.
The remaining hospitals either don't have an EHR governance structure in place (21 percent) or are unsure (19 percent).
Of those with formalized structures, 63 percent include a multidisciplinary committee.
"How organizations make decisions around enhancements to EHRs, including implementation can dramatically impact their ability to meet regulatory measures and create workflow efficiencies," said HIMSS Analytics Research Director Brendan FitzGerald in a news release.
