Hilton Head Hospital in South Carolina Settles Privacy Lawsuit

Hilton Head (S.C.) Hospital has settled a lawsuit that alleged one of its employees improperly revealed pictures of a former patient's infected tattoo to patrons of a local restaurant, according to an Island Packet report.

Shannon Berg was admitted to Hilton Head Hospital in 2009 for an infected tattoo. According to Ms. Berg's complaint, Jessica Nylund, who was serving as a nursing assistant at the time, showed copies of the infected tattoo to a group at a local restaurant, which included another Hilton Head Hospital nurse and the restaurant manager. The restaurant manager reported the incident to the hospital the following day, according to the report.

In her lawsuit against the hospital, Ms. Berg also alleged the hospital failed to tell her about the privacy breach and attempted to cover up the incident. Ms. Nylund has since been fired from the hospital. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
