EMR-Integrated Digital Pens Can Maintain Face-to-Face Interaction With Patients

Some physicians are using a digital pen that is integrated with their electronic medical record system to avoid disrupting the patient-physician interaction with a screen, according to an American Medical News report.

The digital pen also aims to reduce the frustration many feel when not using the standard clipboard. The pen contains a camera that captures what is written on special paper and converts the information into digital data. The data could then become a computer file that can show a picture of what was written or the handwritten text could be converted to typed text entered into an EMR.
