EHRs May Improve Quality of Nursing Care

Electronic health records may boost nurse-assessed quality of care and patient safety, according to research published in the Journal of Nursing Administration.

For their study, researchers conducted a cross-sectional analysis of more than 16,000 nurses working in 316 hospitals. They also utilized logistic regression models to determine any possible link between EHR adoption and nursing care and outcomes.

The results showed that nurses who used EHRs were less likely to report poor patient safety and quality outcomes than nurses who did not use EHRs in their healthcare organizations.
