Nearly 80 hospitals, health systems and clinics have signed on to participate in Apple's health records project since the company launched the feature in January, according to an Aug. 8 update from Apple.
Apple rolled out an iPhone update in January that added a health records section to its Health app. The feature was initially only available to patients at 12 participating hospitals that opted to joint the Apple Beta Software Program.
The health records feature allows patients with medical information from several providers to organize their data in one bucket containing allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications and other health information. The feature allows patients to share the most up-to-date medical information with providers.
The tech company worked with various EHR vendors on the initiative, including Cerner, Epic and athenahealth, to ensure the health records feature was compliant with federal standards for data formats.
Most recently, Ricky Bloomfield, MD, clinical and health informatics lead at Apple, announced the addition of nine providers in a series of tweets Aug. 9.
