The Cleveland Clinic will host its Cleveland Medical Hackathon at the Cleveland-based Global Center for Health Innovation Oct. 21 to Oct. 22, cleveland.com reports.
The Cleveland Medical Hackathon invites students, healthcare providers, engineers and researchers to develop solutions related to a range of healthcare challenges. This year's hackathon will focus on precision medicine, population health, public health and the opioid epidemic.
The first-place winner of the tech competition will receive $7,000, followed by a second-place prize of $3,500 and a third-place prize of $1,750.
In 2016, one winning team developed a crowdsourcing app to assist individuals who witness an opioid overdose locate nearby support. Another winning team developed an app that estimates out-of-pocket costs for various medical procedures, according to cleveland.com.
The Cleveland Medical Hackathon precedes the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit, which will run from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25.
