Cerner hired David Waltman, a health IT strategist and former Veterans Health Administration chief information strategy officer, to advance the company's government strategy, engineering and compliance efforts, according to the Politico Morning eHealth newsletter.
Mr. Waltman most recently served as an IT strategist for AbleVets, a Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense contractor.
At the VA, Mr. Waltman served as the user experience officer for the 2011 to 2013 iEHR project, a failed attempt to integrate the DOD and VA EHRs. He led the project's Joint Legacy Viewer, which allowed VA and DOD physicians to view one another's patient records, according to Politico Morning eHealth.
The new hire follows the VA's decision to implement a systemwide Cerner EHR, as announced by VA Secretary David J. Shulkin, MD, June 5.
