The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will be surveying approximately 5,500 physicians to assess their adoption of electronic health records and the impact they have made on patient care, according to a Federal Register announcement.
Pending approval of a budget increase for the survey and additional funding through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, another 1,500 physicians could possibly be surveyed.
Through the Public Health Service Act, the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics will distribute and use the mailed survey to collect data and statistics on the adoption and utilization of EHRs. A supplemental provider-based mail survey will be sent to physicians to assess physician workflow before and after EHR implementation.
