Minneapolis-based Allina Hospitals & Clinics unintentionally sent information on eight patients to 250,000 patients in a mass email, according to an Eyewitness News report.
Allina originally sent an email to eight patients on how they could use their electronic patient health record system, MyChart. The email bounced back from the eight addresses and Allina's computer server automatically tried to resend the message. In the process, the email, which contained the eight patients' names, email addresses and the name of their employer, was mistakenly sent to all 250,000 accounts.
