An Indiana couple has filed a lawsuit against the multi-specialty physician organization Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation due to a breach of their medical records at a Northwestern clinic, according to a WLS report.
In March and April 2010, the Illinois Sheriff Department allegedly found that employees from the Millard Group, which provided cleaning services for the Galter Pavilion Clinic at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, had taken personal information from patients' medical records. In March 2010, Deann Ritchie-Frazier — a patient at the clinic — and husband Richard Frazier had credit cards and lines of credit opened in their names in three states, according to their suit.
The suit claims negligent hiring and supervision and negligent infliction of emotional distress. Specifically, the Fraziers claim NMFF failed to investigate the hiring practices of Millard; require Millard to investigate the criminal background of employees; supervise employees; implement hiring procedures to ensure data security; and protect the Fraziers' personal information.
The suit seeks more than $200,000 in damages and court costs.
