Whatever bring-your-own-device policies an organization has, employees are still frequently bringing their own devices to the office — and using them to access sensitive corporate information. In fact, this happens about 67 percent of the time, according to information from Bitglass.
Device loss is a serious security risk, and personal-professional dual device increases the likelihood of loss. And, device loss is common: About 45 percent of companies report they have experienced loss of a device with access to corporate data within the past year.
According to Bitglass, in a study with 50 planted, unprotected cell phones loaded with fake personal and corporate data, only one in two people made an attempt to return the "lost" phones. Nearly all finders — 96 percent — searched through private data and applications, and 83 percent attempted to access sensitive corporate data.
