8 Recent Data Breaches Caused by Laptop Thefts

The following data breaches involving laptop thefts were reported within the last 30 days, beginning with the most recent.

1. Palomar Health Data Breach Affects 5,000 Patients
Escondido, Calif.-based Palomar Health notified 5,000 patients their personal and health information was contained on a laptop and two flash drives, all of which were stolen from a Palomar Health employee's vehicle in February.

2. UK HealthCare Notifies More Than 1,000 Patients of Data Breach
Lexington, Ky.-based UK HealthCare notified 1,079 patients their personal health information was contained on a laptop that was stolen from Talyst, a company that provides UK HealthCare with pharmacy billing management services.

3. Laptop Containing 1,700 Patients' Information Stolen from St. Mary's Hospital
A laptop stolen from Tucson, Ariz.-based St. Mary's Hospital contained the personal health information of 1,700 patients.

4. UCSF Data Breach Affects Nearly 10k Patients
UCSF notified 9,986 of its patients their personal and health information was contained on computers stolen from the UCSF Family Medicine Center.

5. Data Breach Affects 826 Georgia Patients
An employee laptop containing the personal information of 826 patients was stolen from a vehicle at an Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare clinic.

6. Cornerstone Health Notifies Patients After Laptop Containing Personal Information Stolen 
High Point, N.C.-based Cornerstone Health Care alerted more than 500 patients after a laptop containing patients' personal information was stolen from Cornerstone Neurology.

7. Los Angeles County Patients' Personal Data Stolen From County Contractor 
As many as 168,500 patients' personal data was contained on computer equipment stolen from a Los Angeles County contractor's office.

8. Patients Notified of Potential Data Breach After Laptop Stolen at Texas Physician's Office
A Sherman, Texas-based physician's office notified patients their personal health information was contained on a laptop stolen from the office.
