Several high profile chief digital officers and digital leaders have left their health system roles for positions with industry disruptors and startups in the last year.
1. Last March, Renton, Wash.-based Providence's former chief digital officer Aaron Martin left his post to become vice president of health at Amazon, where he previously led the self-publishing and media manufacturing on-demand businesses. In his current role at Amazon, Mr. Martin strengthens the company's partnerships with healthcare providers.
2. Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente's former digital chief Prat Vemana also exited the system last October for a role as executive vice president and chief digital and product officer at Target, and he sits on the board of Frontier Communications.
3. Nick Patel, MD, left Greenville, S.C.-based Prisma Health in October after 17 years with the system and four years as chief digital officer. Dr. Patel is now working on several projects, including spending time as a digital strategist for Aegis Ventures, digital transformation officer for Upfront Healthcare Services. He also advises TytoCare, Kyruus and more.
4. In December, Morristown, N.J.-based Atlantic Health System lost its chief digital and information officer Benjamin Maisano to Tendo, a tech company working with health systems to connect patient and organizational insights to accelerate digital transformation. Mr. Maisano spent two years at Atlantic Health System, and before that spent two years as chief technology officer at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City.
5. Suja Chandrasekaran left her post as senior vice president and chief digital and information officer at Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health last year. She is now a board member of Cardinal Health and chair of the board for HealthEM.Ai.
