The use of pediatric telemedicine is underutilized even though it has the potential to improve care quality and access to care in underserved areas, according to a study in Telemedicine and e-Health.
The study surveyed current, planned and closed telemedicine programs, and respondents indicated the following five barriers to pediatric emergency telemedicine programs.
1. Difficulties in cross-hospital credentialing
2. Integration into established workflows
3. Usability of technology
4. Lack of physician buy-in
5. Misaligned incentives between patients and providers
