3 tips to ensure IT infrastructure security

Protecting and safeguarding IT information systems has become top-of-mind in the healthcare industry, especially given the string of data breaches and cyberattacks experienced last year.

Netwrix, a change and configuration auditing solutions provider, offers the following three tips for IT infrastructure security.

1. Establish effective security policies. An effective internal security policy should apply to all aspects of critical data security. Personnel handling sensitive information should have defined roles and responsibilities. Netwrix suggests limiting access to sensitive data only to those who need it to perform their duties. Additionally, organizations should continually revise and update documents to reflect current legislation and technical and business objectives.

2. Ensure employees maintain security. Netwrix suggests distributing security policies to all employees, not just those who handle sensitive information, and making it clear that all employees are responsible for following security protocol. Organizations can also administer security training for employees and publish anonymous audit reports so employees know their cyberactivity is being watched.

3. Audit your infrastructure. Audits can help organizations identify and track malicious user activity, unauthorized access or modifications made to networks sooner. Additionally, reporting regularly on IT infrastructure changes can show organizations if their security policies are in place and working.
